Industrial production in Sweden rose by 5.8% year-on-year in August 2026, accelerating from an upwardly revised 1.2% gain in the previous month.
The increase was largely driven by higher output in the manufacturing industry, which grew to 6.6% from 2.4% in July.
Production mainly increased for wood products (7.1% vs -4.7%), chemical and pharmaceutical products (17.0% vs 12.7%), and other non-metallic products (19.7% vs -5.3%), which more than offset declines in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (-22.9% vs -16.9%) and rubber and plastic products (-5.2% vs -10.6%).
At the same time, mining activity (-7.4% vs -9.0%) decreased at a softer pace, as output surged for other mines and quarries (43.9% vs 9.9%), while metal ore production declined further (-14.9% vs -8.7%).
On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial output grew by 5.4% in August, rebounding from a downwardly revised 2.9% drop in the preceding period.
