Mexico Consumer Confidence Rises to 9-Month High

Mexico's consumer confidence rose to 45 in July 2026 from 43.8 in June, the highest since October 2025, though sentiment remained negative.

Households were more optimistic about their current financial situation, with the corresponding index edging up to 51.8 from 51.2, while perceptions of the current economic situation improved to 39.4 from 37.5 but remained pessimistic.

Looking ahead, expectations for the economy over the next 12 months strengthened to 45.7 from 43.7, though they also stayed below 50.

Expectations for households' future financial situation remained positive, rising to 57.1 from 56.4.

Meanwhile, willingness to make major purchases improved to 31.1 from 30 but continued to signal weak spending intentions.

Compared with July 2025, the headline consumer confidence index was 0.7 points lower.

Mexico Consumer Confidence Improves in June
Mexico's Consumer Confidence Index rose 0.4 points to 43.8 in June 2026 from May, as households became slightly more optimistic about current economic conditions. Four of the five components of the index improved during the month. The largest increases were recorded in perceptions of current household finances, which rose 1.2 points to 51.2, and willingness to purchase durable goods, up 1.1 points to 30.0. Assessments of the current national economic situation increased 0.7 points to 37.5, while expectations for the country's economic outlook over the next 12 months edged up 0.3 points to 43.7. In contrast, expectations for household finances over the next year declined 1.0 point to 56.4. Compared with June 2025, consumer confidence was 1.8 points lower.

Mexico’s Consumer Confidence Index fell 0.7 points to 43.5 in May 2026 from April, reaching its lowest level since December 2022 as households grew more pessimistic about current and future economic conditions. All five components of the index declined during the month. The sharpest decreases were recorded in perceptions of the country's economic outlook over the next 12 months, which fell 1.6 points to 43.3, and assessments of the current national economic situation, down 1.0 point to 37.3. Confidence in current household finances declined 0.7 points to 50.2, while willingness to purchase durable goods fell by the same margin to 28.6. Expectations for household finances over the next year also weakened, slipping 0.3 points to 57.5. Compared with May 2025, consumer confidence was 3.4 points lower.
