Mexico Consumer Confidence Hits One-Year High

Mexico’s consumer confidence rose 1.0 point to 46.1 in August 2026 from July, reaching its highest level in a year, although sentiment remained negative.

All five components improved month-on-month.

The strongest increase was in households’ assessment of their current economic situation, which rose 1.9 points to 53.9.

Expectations for households’ economic situation over the next 12 months increased 1.6 points to 58.9, while the assessment of the country’s current economic situation rose 0.7 point to 40.1.

Expectations for the country’s economic situation posted a marginal 0.1-point increase to 45.8.

Meanwhile, households’ willingness to purchase durable goods, such as furniture and appliances, improved 1.1 points to 32.5.

Year-on-year, consumer confidence was virtually unchanged.

Mexico's consumer confidence rose to 45 in July 2026 from 43.8 in June, the highest since October 2025, though sentiment remained negative. Households were more optimistic about their current financial situation, with the corresponding index edging up to 51.8 from 51.2, while perceptions of the current economic situation improved to 39.4 from 37.5 but remained pessimistic. Looking ahead, expectations for the economy over the next 12 months strengthened to 45.7 from 43.7, though they also stayed below 50. Expectations for households' future financial situation remained positive, rising to 57.1 from 56.4. Meanwhile, willingness to make major purchases improved to 31.1 from 30 but continued to signal weak spending intentions. Compared with July 2025, the headline consumer confidence index was 0.7 points lower.

Mexico's Consumer Confidence Index rose 0.4 points to 43.8 in June 2026 from May, as households became slightly more optimistic about current economic conditions. Four of the five components of the index improved during the month. The largest increases were recorded in perceptions of current household finances, which rose 1.2 points to 51.2, and willingness to purchase durable goods, up 1.1 points to 30.0. Assessments of the current national economic situation increased 0.7 points to 37.5, while expectations for the country's economic outlook over the next 12 months edged up 0.3 points to 43.7. In contrast, expectations for household finances over the next year declined 1.0 point to 56.4. Compared with June 2025, consumer confidence was 1.8 points lower.
