The SENSEX Index Closes 1.23% Higher

India’s BSE Sensex closed about 1.2% firmer at 72,472 on Friday, reversing its subdued performance over the previous two sessions, amid bargain-hunting and softer oil prices. Global market sentiment improved after President Donald Trump said the US will not strike Iran before the November 3 midterms and described talks as productive. Tech stocks powered the recovery, led by TCS, which rallied 4.2% after reporting stronger-than-expected Q2 FY27 results. Infosys (3%), HCL Tech (2.8%) and Tech Mahindra (1.4%) also performed solidly. The tech sector had been under pressure amid concerns over the US green-card restrictions and the outlook for technology spending. Gains in banking, financials and FMCG stocks also provided support. Reliance Industries was the only laggard, falling 0.6%, following recent gains. For the week, the index rose about 0.8%.

The SENSEX Index rose 879 points or 1.23 percent on Friday to close at 72472 points. Leading the gains are Tata Consultancy (4.60%), ITC (4.47%) and HCL Tech (3.54%).

India’s BSE Sensex rose about 1.1% to 72,367 on Friday, rebounding from steep losses in the previous session that pushed the index to a 32-month low, as IT stocks led a technical rebound. Tata Consultancy Services advanced 5.0% after reporting stronger AI-related revenue and international business growth in the September quarter. However, gains were capped by elevated crude oil prices amid intensifying Middle East tensions and supply concerns stemming from a hurricane approaching the US Gulf Coast. Fresh US restrictions on the green-card programme for major IT firms also raised concerns over staffing costs. Persistent foreign investor outflows and rupee weakness further weighed on sentiment, with foreign portfolio investors selling a net 129.44 billion rupees ($1.3 billion) in Indian equities on Thursday, their largest single-day outflow since May 29. Other notable gainers included Infosys (3.0%), Apollo Hospitals (3.01%), HDFC Bank (1.3%), Hexaware (9.6%), and Cupid (2.6%).
