2026-08-06 04:30 By Jereli Escobar 1 min. read

India’s BSE Sensex rose about 0.2% to 78,710 at the open on Thursday, following gains in the previous session, as investors extended their risk-on mood amid easing geopolitical tensions, resilient corporate earnings, and a supportive policy backdrop.

Market sentiment remained buoyed by optimism over possible diplomatic progress in the Middle East, while the Reserve Bank of India's decision to keep interest rates unchanged at 5.25% and raise its FY2027 growth forecast continued to underpin confidence in domestic equities.

Corporate earnings provided additional support, with companies including Aurobindo Pharma, Biocon, Cummins India, GMM Pfaudler, and Navin Fluorine posting stronger-than-expected June-quarter results, reinforcing expectations of healthy profit growth outside the oil marketing sector.

Notable gainers were Shilpa Medicare (7.6%), Navin (5.5%), Hindustan Aeronautics (5.1%), Cupid (2.6%), and Reliance (1.8%).

Sensex Posts Marginal Gains
India’s BSE Sensex closed about 0.2% up at 78,581 on Wednesday, recovering from yesterday's losses, as markets evaluated the latest central bank policy decision, corporate earnings, and Middle East developments. Sentiment remained cautious, however, amid rising crude oil prices, foreign fund outflows, and the new closing auction mechanism. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) kept the benchmark repo rate unchanged at 5.25% and maintained its neutral policy stance, broadly in line with market expectations. Investors also welcomed signs of progress toward a US-Iran agreement on reopening the Strait of Hormuz, although fresh incidents in the Red Sea kept geopolitical risks elevated. UltraTech Cement led gains among stocks, rising 2%, followed by NTPC (+1.8%), SBIN (+1.7%), and M&M (+1.7%). Bharti Airtel added 0.3% after reporting a strong June quarter. On the flip side, TCS (-1.2%), HCL Tech (-1.1%), Reliance (-0.9%) and BEL (-0.7%) posted the biggest losses.
