The Hang Seng Index edged higher 0.3%, or 79 points, to 23,943 on Wednesday, recovering part of the previous session’s losses as investors sought bargains following Tuesday’s sell-off.

Gains were supported by improved sentiment on Wall Street and renewed optimism over AI server demand after Super Micro Computer raised its revenue outlook, offering some relief to technology stocks amid concerns over the returns on heavy AI investment.

However, the recovery remained tempered by China’s policy outlook after stronger-than-expected third-quarter economic growth reduced expectations for additional stimulus, while the People’s Bank of China kept its benchmark lending rates unchanged.

Investors also monitored US interest-rate expectations and corporate earnings for clues on the outlook for global equities.

Notable movers included Z.AI Co. (4.6%), Lenovo (3.2%), Genscript Biotech (7.7%), Kingboard Laminates (3.6%), and MiniMax (1.9%).

Hong Kong Stocks Hit 15-Week Low
The Hang Seng Index fell 0.9%, or 216 points, to close at 23,652 on Wednesday, marking its lowest level since July 2026 as weakness in technology and battery stocks outweighed improved global sentiment. Selling pressure intensified after CATL plunged around 10% following slower third-quarter profit growth amid fierce competition and weaker Chinese auto sales. Technology shares remained under pressure amid concerns over the returns on heavy AI investment and elevated financing costs, despite renewed optimism over AI server demand following Super Micro Computer’s improved revenue outlook. Meanwhile, investors weighed China's economic outlook and the prospect of further policy support, while corporate earnings and US interest-rate expectations remained in focus. Other notable decliners included Pop Mart (-5.7%), Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (-2.3%) and Tencent (-3.8%), while Lenovo (+2.9%) and Z.AI Co. (+2.0%) provided some support.
