Corn Hits 5-week Low

Corn decreased to 502.75 USd/BU, the lowest since August 2026. Over the past 4 weeks, Corn lost 2.23%, and in the last 12 months, it increased 20.9%.

Corn fell more than 3% to around $5.00 a bushel, the lowest in five weeks, after the USDA reported US inventories well above market expectations. Corn stocks as of September 1 stood at 2.095 billion bushels, compared with trade estimates of 1.918 billion, highlighting a larger supply cushion than anticipated. Traders were also assessing the progress of the US harvest, with forecasts for continued rainfall raising concerns that wet conditions could slow fieldwork. As of Monday, farmers had harvested 18% of the corn crop, in line with the five-year average, according to the USDA. The decline also reflected broader weakness across grain markets. China excluded soybeans from proposed tariff reductions on US agricultural goods, prompting traders to reduce positions and weighing on corn through spillover effects. Although corn was included in China’s proposed tariff cuts, the agreement did not include new commitments to purchase US corn.

Corn futures fell around $5.2 per bushel, reaching a three-week low as broad selling across grain markets intensified following a sharp decline in soybeans. Soybeans came under pressure after China excluded them from proposed tariff reductions on US agricultural products, prompting traders to liquidate positions and weighing on corn through spillover selling. Corn itself was included in China’s proposed tariff cuts, along with other US agricultural products, but the agreement provided no fresh US corn purchase commitments. US corn export inspections totaled 1.57 million metric tons in the week ended September 24, down from 1.96 million tons a week earlier but near the upper end of market expectations. Meanwhile, the US harvest reached 18% completion as of September 27, slightly ahead of the five-year average, while 56% of the crop was rated good or excellent. Traders now await the USDA’s September 30 Grain Stocks report, which could bring fresh estimates on domestic supplies.
