Baltic Dry Index Up for 2nd Day

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which tracks rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, was up for a second session on Wednesday, rising about 1% to 3,620 points, supported by all vessel segments.

The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, also advanced for a second day, rising 1.4% to 6,400 points.

At the same time, the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, remained unchanged at 2,414 points; and the supramax index increased 0.7% to 1,704 points.

Baltic Dry Index Bounces Back
The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which tracks rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, rose about 0.3% to 3,584 points on Tuesday, following a 1.4% decrease in the prior session. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, rebounded by 0.4% to 6,313 points; and the supramax index went up 0.7% to 1,693 points. On the other hand, the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, was down for a third day, falling 0.7% to 2,414 points.

Baltic Dry Index Breaks 3-Day Advance
The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which tracks rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, fell by 1.4% to 3,575 points on Monday, snapping a three-day advance but staying near its highest levels since October 2021. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, slumped by 2.2% to 6,286 points, also breaking a three-day wining streak but remaining close to its peak since December 2023. At the same time, the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, was down for a second session, falling 0.7% tp 2,431 points. Among smaller vessels, the supramax index went up by 0.4% to 1,682 points.
