Baltic Dry Index Losing Run Continues

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, extended its decline into a ninth consecutive session on Wednesday, falling about 1.7% to a fresh low since May 1st at 2,771 points.

The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, dropped about 3.2% to 4,301 points.

Conversely, the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, went up by 0.3% to 2,211 points; and the supramax index rose by 0.3% to 1,618 points.

Baltic Dry Index Extends Losing Run Into 8th Day
The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, was down for the eighth consecutive session on Tuesday, dropping 3.4% to its lowest since May 1st at 2,818 points. Sustained weakness across larger vessel segments continued to weigh. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, slipped by 5.9% to 4,441 points; and the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, fell 0.6% to 2,205 points. Conversely, the supramax index increased by 1.1% to 1,614 points.

Baltic Dry Index at Over 1-Month Low
The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, retreated for the seventh consecutive session on Monday, dropping about 2.2% to the lowest since May 5 at 2,916 points, pressured by the larger vessel segments. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, slipped 3.6% to 4,719 points; and the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, decreased 18 points to 2,218 points. On the other hand, the supramax index rose 8 points to 1,596 points.
