Baltic Dry Index Rises to Over 4-Month High

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, rose about 0.6% to the highest since December 8 at 2,686 points on Thursday, propelled by gains in the larger vessel segments.

The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, rose 1% to 2,670 points; and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, went up 0.7% to 1,992 points.

On the other hand, the supramax index fell 0.6% to 1,525 points.

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, snapped a two-day winning streak on Wednesday, falling 0.3% to 2,670 points. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, decreased 0.5% to 4,283 points; and the supramax went down 0.5% to 1,534 points. On the other hand, the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 0.7% to 1,979 points.

Baltic Dry Index Rises for 2nd Day
The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, was up for a second session on Tuesday, adding 11 points to 2,677 points, driven by gains across all vessel segments. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, advanced 22 points to 4,304 points; and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, increased 9 points to 1,966 points. Among smaller vessels, the supramax index went up 2 points to 1,542 points.
