Baltic Dry Index Bounces, Still Posts Weekly Loss

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, snapped its three-day losing streak on Friday, rising 1.2% to 2,043 points, mainly supported by the larger vessel segments.

The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, rebounded by 1.7% to 3,051 points; and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, continued to increase, rising 1.2% to 1,838 points.

Among smaller vessels, the supramax index eased 1 point to 1,159 points.

For the week, the benchmark index fell around 1.9%.

The Baltic Exchange dry bulk freight index decreased 0.3% to 2720 on Monday, the lowest since April 30. The capesize index, which typically transport 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, fell 1.3% to 4053. On the other hand, the panamax index, which usually carry 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, increased 0.4% to 2291. The supramax index rose 1.3% to 1664.

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, remained steady at 2,729 points on Friday, the lowest level since May 1st, after ten consecutive sessions of decreases. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, fell by 0.8% to 4,107 points. Meanwhile, the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose by 1.4% to 2,283 points; and the supramax index went up 0.6% to 1,642 points. The benchmark index slipped about 8.5% for the week.

Baltic Dry Index Falls for 10th Day
The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, was down for the tenth successive session on Thursday, falling about 1.5% to a new low since May 1st at 2,729 points. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, slumped by 3.7% to 4,140 points. Meanwhile, the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose by 1.8% to 2,251 points; and the supramax index went up 0.9% to 1,633 points.
