The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, broke a 15-day winning streak on Thursday, down 1.1% to 2,815 points, but still hovering near December 2023 highs.
The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, decreased by 1.3% to 5,319 points, though it also remains close to its highest since December 2023.
At the same time, the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, eased for the sixth session, falling 1.5% to 1,863 points; and the supramax index shed 3 points at 1,441 points.
