Baltic Dry Index Rallies to Over 1-1/2-Year High

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, continued to rise for the sixth day in a row on Thursday, up 0.4% to its highest since March 2024 at 2,270 points.
The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, also advanced for a sixth session, rising 0.3% to a peak since late July at 3,647 points; and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, went up 0.9% to 1,912 points.
Among smaller vessels, the supramax index increased 0.4% to 1,435 points, extending gains for the 11th straight session.
