The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, was little changed at 2,092 points on Wednesday, holding close to the one-week highs hit in the previous session.

The panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, advanced for the 12th consecutive day, rising 2.5% to an over one-month high of 1,904 points.

Meanwhile, the capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, snapped a four-day winning streak, falling about 0.8% to 3,159 points; and the supramax index declined 17 points to 1,397 points.

" The capesize sector was notably turbulent as China's newly announced port charges on US-linked ships initially drove bullish expectations, only for sentiment to reverse once exemptions for Chinese-built vessels were clarified," Intermodal analysts said in a weekly note.
