Chile Retail Sales Growth Accelerates in May

Chile’s retail trade growth quickened to 4.8% year-over-year in May 2026, up from 4.1% in April and marking the steepest increase since February.

The rise was driven by stronger sales of used vehicles (8.8% vs. 8.7%), food (4.0% vs. 2.6%), clothing and footwear (8.9% vs. 2.0%), electronics, home equipment, and technological products (6.9% vs. 4.3%), and other consumer goods (6.7% vs. 6.2%).

On a seasonally adjusted basis, retail trade rose 0.3% in May, reversing April’s 0.5% decline.

Chile Retail Sales Rise 4.1% YoY in April
Retail sales in Chile increased 4.1% year-on-year in April 2026, slowing from a downwardly revised 4.5% rise in March. The most significant contributions came from sales of miscellaneous consumer goods (6.8%), new light motor vehicles (15.6%), and motor vehicle spare parts, tires, and accessories (10%). Compared to the previous month, retail sales declined 0.5%, the biggest drop since July last year, following an upwardly revised 0.3% rise in March.

Chile Retail Sales Growth Eases in March
Retail sales in Chile increased 4.6% year-on-year in March 2026, down from a 5.4% increase in the previous period. The categories that contributed most were spare parts, tires and accessories for motor vehicles (12.2%), electronic, household and technological products (5.1%) and other consumer goods (5.2%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales increased 0.1%, down from a upwardly revised 1.1% increase in February.
