Taiwan Equities Hit New High, Top 48,000 Mark

The TAIEX, Taiwan’s benchmark stock index, rose 692 points, or 1.5%, to 48,411 in Tuesday morning trading, gaining for the fifth straight session and hitting a record high, mainly buoyed by gains in electronic technology.

The index surpassed the 48,000 mark for the first time on June 23, 2026, reaching an intraday high of 48,219 before pulling back.

Electronic technology climbed 1.8%, with TSMC, the world's largest contract chipmaker and accounting for more than 40% of the market's total value, advancing 0.6%.

Meanwhile, MediaTek and ASE Technology Holding surged 8.6% and 6.3%, respectively.

United Microelectronics soared 6.1%, while Unimicron Technology Corp.

jumped 9.8%.

The broader index tracked a rise on Wall Street overnight, buoyed by solid AI-related stocks, while oil prices and US Treasury yields eased.

Optimism over the Trump-Xi summit this week also lifted sentiment, as AI and tariffs are expected to be discussed at the meeting.
