Taiwan 10Y Bond Yield Hits Near 18-year High

Taiwan 10 Year Government Bond Yield increased to 1.95%, the highest since November 2008. Over the past 4 weeks, Taiwan 10Y Bond Yield gained 24.00 basis points, and in the last 12 months, it increased 54.00 basis points.

Taiwan's 10-year government bond yield climbed to around 1.88% in late July, its highest level since October 2022, as investors increasingly priced in the prospect of tighter monetary policy. Expectations for higher interest rates have strengthened after inflation remained above the central bank's 2% target in recent months, reinforcing the view that policymakers may need to keep monetary conditions restrictive or consider further tightening if price pressures persist. However, the central bank has continued to stress that future policy decisions will remain data dependent. Rising bond yields have also been supported by the central bank's liquidity withdrawals to curb depreciation of the Taiwan dollar and strong investor interest in AI-related equities. The move has been accompanied by a broader selloff across the bond market, with the 20-year bond yield reaching its highest level since 2014 and the five-year yield climbing to its highest level since 2008.
