Taiwan Consumer Confidence Weakens

Taiwan’s consumer confidence index fell to 66.58 in February 2026 from a nine-month high of 67.16 in January, signaling a renewed deterioration in household sentiment.

All six major sub-indicators pointed to a broadly pessimistic outlook for the next six months, with declines recorded in purchases of durable goods (97.12 vs 98.2 in January), investment opportunity in stocks (28.46 vs 29.52), domestic economic conditions (83.25 vs 83.69), household economic situation (80.0 vs 80.39), employment opportunities (73.52 vs 73.8), and price levels (37.11 vs 37.34).

Other indicators also deteriorated, including the timing for real estate purchases (93.76 vs 94.95), as well as both current (86.47 vs 87.06) and expected health conditions (80.83 vs 81.17).

Taiwan Consumer Confidence Rises to 9-Month High
Taiwan’s consumer confidence index rose to 67.16 in January 2026 from 64.30 in December 2025, marking the highest reading since May 2025. Gains were seen across all components of the index, with the largest increase recorded in expectations for consumer prices over the next six months (37.34 vs 32.82), followed by stock market investment sentiment (29.52 vs 26.37) and household financial outlook (80.39 vs 77.68). Domestic economic expectations (83.69 vs 81.39), durable goods purchases (98.20 vs 95.94), and employment opportunities (73.80 vs 71.60) also rose. The improvement reflected stronger confidence after the US-Taiwan tariff agreement lowered import tariffs to 15%, easing uncertainty.

Taiwan Consumer Sentiment Ticks Lower in December
Taiwan’s consumer confidence index edged down to 64.3 in the final month of 2025 from 64.65 in the previous month, reflecting slightly weaker household sentiment. Confidence toward stock investments deteriorated further (26.37 vs 27.02 in November), underscoring lingering uncertainty in financial markets. Views on durable goods purchases also softened (95.94 vs 97.00), while expectations for the domestic economic outlook edged down (81.39 vs 81.77). Meanwhile, households’ assessments of their own financial conditions were largely unchanged (77.68 vs 77.63), as were perceptions of employment opportunities (71.6 vs 71.65) and views on the price outlook (32.82 vs 32.79).
