Sweden New Orders Fall Sharply in July

Sweden’s total industrial orders fell 0.5% year-on-year in July 2026, reversing a 29.5% increase in June and marking the smallest growth since July 2023. The decline was led by orders for intermediate goods which declined sharply to 5.8% from 30.3% rise in the previous month. Energy-related goods excluding durable goods also declined, which fell 18.9% (vs. -10.9% in June), and durable consumer goods, which decreased 8.7% (vs. -3.8%). Meanwhile, capital goods orders increased 0.3% (vs. 51.8%). Orders for non-durable consumer goods rose 12.0%, accelerating from 0.4% in June. On a monthly basis, total orders declined by 24.1%, reversing a 32.3% rise in June. For the January–July period, total orders were 3.6% higher than the corresponding period a year ago, as export market has increased while the domestic market has decreased.

Total orders received by Sweden jumped 29.9% year-on-year in June 2026, marking the sharpest rise since December 2022 and accelerating from an upwardly revised 1.6% increase in the previous month. Orders from customers abroad surged by 57.6% (vs. 3.3% in May), which more than offset a 7.4% decline in domestic demand (vs. -0.9%). Among industrial groupings, orders for capital goods (50.7% vs -3.6%) and intermediate goods (30.6% vs -3.1%) recorded the strongest growth. Meanwhile, orders for non-durable consumer goods increased at a slower pace (1.0% vs 12.6%), while durable consumer goods fell 4.3% (vs -4.0%). Energy-related goods excluding durable goods also remained in contraction (-3.5% vs -7.9%). On a monthly basis, total orders surged by 32.3%, rebounding sharply from a 3.2% fall in May. For the January–June period, total orders were 4% higher than the corresponding period a year ago, as domestic demand was unchanged while the export market has increased.

Total orders received by Swedish industry rose by 1.3% year-on-year in May 2026, slowing from a downwardly revised 4.8% increase in the previous month. Domestic orders fell 1.4% after a 0.8% increase in April, while orders from foreign customers slowed to 3% from 7%. Among industrial groupings, growth in capital goods orders eased markedly (2.7% vs 10.1%), while orders for energy-related goods (-7.8% vs 6.7%) and durable consumer goods (-4.4% vs 4.7%) swung into decline. Orders for intermediate goods also remained under pressure (-3.1% vs -1.6%). In contrast, non-durable consumer goods recorded stronger growth (12.3% vs 8.6%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, total orders fell 3.2%, reversing a downwardly revised 3.9% increase in April. For the January–May period, total orders were down 1.6% compared with the corresponding period a year earlier, as domestic demand rose 1.6% while export orders dropped 3.5%.
