Sweden New Orders Ease in May

Total orders received by Swedish industry rose by 1.3% year-on-year in May 2026, slowing from a downwardly revised 4.8% increase in the previous month.

Domestic orders fell 1.4% after a 0.8% increase in April, while orders from foreign customers slowed to 3% from 7%.

Among industrial groupings, growth in capital goods orders eased markedly (2.7% vs 10.1%), while orders for energy-related goods (-7.8% vs 6.7%) and durable consumer goods (-4.4% vs 4.7%) swung into decline.

Orders for intermediate goods also remained under pressure (-3.1% vs -1.6%).

In contrast, non-durable consumer goods recorded stronger growth (12.3% vs 8.6%).

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, total orders fell 3.2%, reversing a downwardly revised 3.9% increase in April.

For the January–May period, total orders were down 1.6% compared with the corresponding period a year earlier, as domestic demand rose 1.6% while export orders dropped 3.5%.

Total orders received by the Swedish industry rose by 6.3% year-on-year in April 2026, rebounding from a revised 7.2% decline in the previous month. Orders from foreign customers recovered sharply, rising 9.8% after a 14.1% drop in March, while domestic orders grew at a slower pace of 0.5% from 6.0%. Among industrial groupings, intermediate goods (1.0% vs -25.2%), and durable consumer (4.5% vs -0.8%) rebounded. Growth also accelerated in capital goods (10.0% vs 2.0%). Meanwhile, gains moderated for energy-related goods (15.0% vs. 19.8%) and non-durable consumer goods (8.8% vs. 11.0%). On a monthly basis, industrial orders rose 5.1% in April, recovering from a 0.9% decline in March. In the first four months of the year, total orders were down 1.6%, as domestic demand increased 2.5% while export orders fell 3.9%.

Sweden Factory Orders Fall 7.3% in March
Total orders received by the Swedish industry fell by 7.3% year-on-year in March 2026, reversing from a downwardly revised 0.6% increase in the previous month. Orders from foreign customers dropped by 14.5%, worsening from a 1.3% decline in February, while domestic orders rose 6.5%, accelerating from a 4.9% increase. Among industrial groups, the intermediate goods industry recorded a sharper decline (-25.4% vs -5.6%), while the durable consumer goods industry also turned negative (-1.8% vs 11.2%). Meanwhile, growth accelerated in the energy-related sector (19.3% vs 6.0%) and the non-durable consumer goods industry (10.7% vs 5.1%). On a monthly basis, industrial orders fell 1.4% in March, unchanged from an upwardly revised 1.4% decline in the previous month. In the first quarter of the year, total orders were down 4.0%, with the domestic market growing 3.7% and the export market declining 8.2%.
