Sweden Posts Strongest Order Growth Since 2022

Total orders received by the Swedish industry jumped 23% year-on-year in November 2025, following a downwardly revised 11.9% growth in October and marking the sharpest increase since December 2022.

Orders received from customers abroad soared (32.5% vs 4.4% in October), while orders received from customers in Sweden rose at a much softer pace (5.7% vs 22.9%).

Among industrial groups, demand for capital goods grew significantly (70.6% vs 36.3%), whereas orders for energy-related goods declined further (-28.7% vs -22%).

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, total orders increased by 11.8% in November, after an upwardly revised 4.9% gain in the previous month.

Over the January-November period, total orders in industry were 8% higher than the corresponding period last year, with domestic orders rising by 3% and foreign orders climbing by 11.2%.

Total orders received by the Swedish industry fell by 3.9% year-on-year in January 2026, slipping from a downwardly revised 6.6% increase in the previous month. It marked the first month of decline since May last year, as orders received from both customers in Sweden (-0.5% 7.3% in December) and from abroad (-5.7% vs 6.5%) decreased. Among industrial groups, demand for intermediate goods sharply declined (-17.6% vs 12.8%), while growth eased for non-durable consumer goods (1.5% vs 3.5%). In contrast, orders rebounded for energy-related (8.2% vs -8.7%) and durable consumer goods (2.7% vs -5.4%), while it increased further for capital goods (12.2% vs 4.5%). On a monthly basis, new orders declined by 5.5% in January, following a downwardly revised 7.5% drop in the preceding period.

Total orders received by the Swedish industry rose by 6.8% year-on-year in December 2025, sharply slowing from a downwardly revised 19.4% growth in the previous month. It marked the lowest level since September, as orders received from customers abroad significantly moderated (7.1% vs 27.1% in November), which offset stronger gains in orders received from customers in Sweden (7.7% vs 5.4%). Among industrial groups, demand for capital goods sharply eased (4.5% vs 70.4%), while it continued to decline for durable consumer goods (-5.7% vs -1.1%). On the other hand, orders rebounded for intermediate goods (12.8% vs -6%) and fell at a much softer pace for energy-related goods (-9% vs -28.7%). On a monthly basis, new orders dropped 7.9%, reversing an 8.8% rise in November. Over the whole period of 2025, total orders in industry were 7.5% higher compared to the same period a year earlier, with the domestic market increasing 3.4% and export markets growing 10.3%.
