Swedish Inflation Confirmed at 0.7% in June

Consumer prices in Sweden rose by 0.7% year-on-year in June 2026, confirming preliminary estimates and slowing slightly from a seven-month high of 0.8% in May.

A steeper decline was recorded in food prices (-6.8% vs. -6.2% in May), alongside renewed decreases in clothing and footwear (-2.3% vs. 0.7%) and furnishings, household equipment and maintenance (-3.0% vs. -1.4%).

Inflation also softened for transport (3.5% vs. 6.0%), despite fuel prices remaining elevated (13.7% vs. 26.9%).

In contrast, price growth accelerated for housing and utilities (4.0% vs. 2.6%) and recreation, sport and culture (1.6% vs. 0.6%), reflecting seasonal increases in package holidays, car rentals, and international flights.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices grew by 0.4%, slowing from a 1% increase in the preceding period.

Meanwhile, the CPI with a fixed interest rate (CPIF), the Riksbank’s target measure, rose by 1.3% year-on-year, matching initial estimates and easing from a 1.5% increase in May.

This marked the second consecutive month of rise but at a softer pace. “The pace of inflation eased in June as a result, among other things, of lower food prices and transport costs,” said Mikael Nordin, price statistician at Statistics Sweden. On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up by 0.4% in June, slowing from a 1% increase in the preceding period. Meanwhile, the CPI with a fixed interest rate (CPIF), the Riksbank’s target measure, rose by 1.3% year-on-year in June, easing from a 1.5% increase in May, and slightly above the expected 1.2% gain.

Consumer prices in Sweden rose by 0.8% year-on-year in May 2026, confirming initial estimates and rebounding from a 0.1% fall in the previous month. The latest reading also marked the highest inflation rate since October 2025, driven largely by rising energy costs, particularly fuel (26.9% vs. 29.3% in April) and electricity prices (14.9% vs. 4.6%). This, in turn, lifted housing and utility costs (2.6% vs. -0.1%) and transport prices (6.0% vs. 5.2%). In contrast, food prices declined further (-6.2% vs -5.7%), while inflation softened for clothing and footwear (0.7% vs 1.2%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices grew by 1.0%, marking the fastest rise since June 2023, after dropping by 0.6% in the preceding period. Meanwhile, the CPI with a fixed interest rate (CPIF), the Riksbank’s target measure, climbed by 1.5% annually in May, matching preliminary estimates and accelerating from April’s 0.8% rise, which was the softest increase since December 2020.
