Poland Inflation Rate Accelerates to 3.4%

The annual inflation rate in Poland accelerated to 4.0% year-on-year in September 2026 from 3.4% in the previous month, slightly below market expectations of 4.1%, preliminary estimates showed. This marked the highest reading since June 2025. The increase was driven by faster growth in prices for fuels and lubricants for private means of transport, which surged 36.1%, while prices for electricity, gas, and other fuels rose 4.9%. In contrast, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages fell 0.5%. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.7% in September from a 0.3% increase in August.

The annual inflation rate in Poland rose to 3.4% in August 2026 from 3.0% in the previous month, confirming preliminary estimates. This marked the highest level since June 2025, as prices increased for several categories, including housing and utilities (4.6% vs 4.5% in July), transport (11.2% vs 7.0%), recreation, sports, and culture (6.5% vs 5.4%), education (5.4% vs 5.3%), and personal hygiene, social protection, and other goods and services (2.4% vs 1.6%). Conversely, price growth eased for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products (6.6% vs 6.9%), health (4.7% vs 4.9%), and information and communication (3.5% vs 5.2%), while it was unchanged for restaurants and accommodation services (4.2%). Meanwhile, deflation slowed for clothing and footwear (-2.9% vs -3.6%), while prices fell further for food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.9% vs -0.4%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.3% in August, easing from a 0.8% rise in the previous period.

This marked the highest inflation rate since June 2025, bringing it close to the upper limit of the central bank’s 2.5% inflation target, which allows for a range of 1.5% to 3.5%. Among subcategories, prices for fuels and lubricants for personal transport equipment surged 24.2%, while electricity, gas and other fuels rose 4.1%. On the other hand, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages declined by 0.9%. On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.4%, moderating from a 0.8% rise in the previous period.
