Poland Inflation Rate Hits Over 1-Year High

The annual inflation rate in Poland rose to 3.4% in August 2026 from 3.0% in the previous month, confirming preliminary estimates.

This marked the highest level since June 2025, as prices increased for several categories, including housing and utilities (4.6% vs 4.5% in July), transport (11.2% vs 7.0%), recreation, sports, and culture (6.5% vs 5.4%), education (5.4% vs 5.3%), and personal hygiene, social protection, and other goods and services (2.4% vs 1.6%).

Conversely, price growth eased for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products (6.6% vs 6.9%), health (4.7% vs 4.9%), and information and communication (3.5% vs 5.2%), while it was unchanged for restaurants and accommodation services (4.2%).

Meanwhile, deflation slowed for clothing and footwear (-2.9% vs -3.6%), while prices fell further for food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.9% vs -0.4%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.3% in August, easing from a 0.8% rise in the previous period.

The annual inflation rate in Poland picked up to 3.4% in August 2026 from 3.0% in July, coming in above expectations of 3.1%, preliminary estimates showed. This marked the highest inflation rate since June 2025, bringing it close to the upper limit of the central bank’s 2.5% inflation target, which allows for a range of 1.5% to 3.5%. Among subcategories, prices for fuels and lubricants for personal transport equipment surged 24.2%, while electricity, gas and other fuels rose 4.1%. On the other hand, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages declined by 0.9%. On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.4%, moderating from a 0.8% rise in the previous period.

The annual inflation rate in Poland accelerated to 3.0% year-on-year in July 2026 from 2.5% in the previous month, confirming preliminary estimates. The pickup was mainly driven by faster price growth for transport (7.0% vs 1.3% in June), reflecting a sharp rebound in transport costs, and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (6.9% vs 6.5%). Inflation also accelerated for information and communication (5.2% vs 4.0%) and recreation, sport and culture (5.4% vs 5.2%). In contrast, prices continued to decline for clothing and footwear (-3.6% vs -3.1%), while inflation eased for housing and utilities (4.5% vs 4.9%), health (4.9% vs 5.0%), education services (5.3% vs 6.0%), and restaurants and accommodation services (4.2% vs 4.5%). Food prices remained in deflation (-0.4% vs -0.2%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.8%, rebounding from a 0.5% decline in June.
