In 2019, imports to Norway rose 6 percent from the previous year to an all-time high of NOK 756 billion. Main imports were: machinery and transport equipment (40 percent of total imports) led by road vehicles (12 percent), electrical machinery and apparatus (6 percent), general industrial machinery and equipment (5 percent), machinery for special industries (4 percent), telecommunications apparatus and equipment (4 percent) and other transport equipment including ships (4 percent); miscellaneous manufactured articles (14 percent) such as articles of apparel and accessories (3 percent); manufactured goods classified chiefly by material (14 percent) including manufactures of metals (5 percent); chemicals and related products (10 percent); mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials (7 percent) due to petroleum, petroleum products (6 percent); food and live animals (6 percent); and crude materials, inedible, except fuels (6 percent). Sweden was the biggest source of imports (12 percent of total imports), followed by Germany (11 percent), China (10 percent), the US (8 percent), Denmark (6 percent), the UK (5 percent), Poland and the Netherlands (4 percent each).
