Norway Industry Confidence at 8.90 Index Points  
Norway's industrial confidence indicator stood at 8.9 in the third quarter of 2018, unchanged from a downwardly revised figure in the previous period. It remained at its highest reading since the first quarter 2012, as manufacturers reported an increase in total production of intermediate, capital, and consumers goods. The overall employment showed a rise, with producers of capital and intermediate goods reporting strong growth while those of consumer goods seeing a slight decrease. Meantime, the general outlook for the fourth quarter of 2018 was clearly positive for the different industrial groupings. Industry leaders reported that investment plans are adjusted upwards and employment is expected to increase further. Also, new orders from both the domestic and export market were projected to grow and the total stock of orders is set to rise.

Producer prices in Norway rose by 21.1 percent year-on-year in September of 2018, slowing from a 22.8 percent increase in the prior month. It was the lowest producer inflation since June, as cost increased at a softer pace for: extraction and related services (43.0 vs 43.8 percent in August); manufacturing (7.4 percent vs 8.7 percent) and electricity, gas and steam (46.2 vs 65.5 percent). On the other hand, cost of mining and quarrying went up 8.8 percent, after a 8 percent rise in August. Norway Inflation Rate at 3.40 percent  
Annual inflation rate in Norway came in at 3.4 percent year-on-year in September 2018, unchanged from the previous month’s 20-month high and above market consensus of 3.2 percent. Prices rose at a faster pace for food and non-alcoholic beverages (3.4 percent vs 3.2 percent in August); recreation and culture (3.1 percent vs 2.8 percent) and furniture and household equipment (3.2 percent vs flat reading in August). On the other hand, prices increased less than a month earlier for both housing and utilities (6.1 percent vs 6.5 percent) and transport (3.5 percent vs 3.8 percent); while inflation was steady for miscellaneous goods and services (at 1.4 percent). Annual core inflation rate, which is adjusted for tax changes and excludes energy products, stood at 1.9 percent in September, the same pace as in August, but beating market consensus of 1.8 percent. On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 0.6 percent, after a 0.4 percent drop in August.

The Norges Bank raised its key policy rate to 0.75 percent from 0.5 percent on September 20th 2018, as widely expected, but at the same time it signaled slower pace of hikes in the next few years. Norway Consumer Confidence at 16.40 Index Points  
Norway's consumer confidence declined to 16.4 in the third quarter of 2018 from 19.6 in the previous period. It was the weakest reading since the third quarter of 2017, as consumers' expectations towards the country's economy next year fell sharply (1.3 vs 15.7 in Q2) and those towards the country's economy last year also deteriorated (16.3 vs 22.9). In addition, consumers' assessment on their own financial conditions next year weakened (23.1 vs 24.8) and their willingness to make large purchases softened noticeably (11.4 vs 18.3). "A reported rise in interest rates and increasing turmoil in the world economy can be some of the explanation for the case," says Idar Kreutzer, CEO of Finance Norway. The country's consumer confidence hit a 24-year low of -15.2 in the first quarter of 2016, due to a plunge in crude oil prices.
