So far this year, the trade surplus increased by 38.5 percent from the same period of 2016 to NOK 119.16 billion.

Norway's consumer prices increased 1.3 percent from a year earlier in August 2017, easing from a 1.5 percent gain in the previous month and missing market expectations of 1.7 percent. It was the lowest inflation rate since February 2013, as prices rose at a slower pace for: Recreation and culture (3 percent from 3.1 percent in July); miscellaneous goods and services (2.1 percent from 2.2 percent); and restaurants and hotels (3.6 percent from 3.7 percent). Meanwhile, cost fell for: Food and non-alcoholic beverages (-1.7 percent from 0.7 percent in July); furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance (-2.4 percent from -2.3 percent); and clothing and footwear (-5.1 percent from -5.3 percent). Annual core inflation rate, which is adjusted for tax changes and excludes energy products, fell to 0.9 percent from 1.2 percent in July. On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped 0.8 percent and core consumer prices declined 0.9 percent.

The number of unemployed went down by 5,000 from the previous non-overlapping three-month period to 118,000 while the number of employed fell by 2,000 to 2.646 million. A year earlier, the unemployment rate stood at 4.8 percent.

Norway GDP Growth Rate at 1.10 percent  
The Norwegian economy grew by 1.1 percent quarter-on-quarter in the three months to June of 2017, much stronger than a 0.2 percent expansion in the previous period. Growth was supported by a rebound in petroleum activities and ocean transport (3.7 percent from -2.3 percent in Q1) and fixed investment (3.2 percent from -0.6 percent in Q1). Also, household consumption rose further by 1 percent (from 0.6 percent in Q1) while government spending expanded at a slower 0.4 percent (from 0.8 percent in Q1). In addition, net trade contributed positively, as exports advanced 1 percent (from -0.9 percent in Q1) while imports shrank 0.4 percent (from 4.3 percent in Q1). Mainland GDP, which excludes oil and gas exploration and transport, advanced by 0.7 percent in the second quarter, the same pace as in the previous period.

rManufacturing confidence in Norway jumped to 3.8 in the June quarter of 2017 an upwardly revised 1.5 in the previous period. It was the highest reading since the second quarter 2014, mainly supported by an increase in the output of intermediate goods, of which basic chemicals and the industry grouping rubber, plastic and mineral products. In contrast, a decline was seen in the production of capital and consumer goods. Also, employment dropped, significantly among producers of capital goods, which were particularly affected by the reduced investment activity in the petroleum related industry. Meanwhile, general outlook for the coming quarter is positive, as industry leaders report that investment plans are adjusted upwards, while employment will see a further drop. New orders from both the domestic market and export market are expected to increase. The total stock of orders is expected to increase.
