Norway's producer prices rose by 7.8 percent year-on-year in December 2018, easing from a 14.9 percent increase in the previous month. It was the lowest producer inflation rate since March, as prices rose at a softer pace for extraction and related services (8.7 percent vs 24.9 percent in November), and manufacturing (3.6 percent vs 6.9 percent). At the same time, water supply inflation was unchanged at 11.2 percent, while cost went up faster for both mining and quarrying (4.9 percent vs 4.7 percent) and electricity, gas and steam (47.2 percent vs 39.4 percent). On a monthly basis, producer prices declined 3.5 percent in December, following a 3.2 percent fall in November.

Norway's consumer confidence declined to 14.6 in the fourth quarter of 2018 from a downwardly revised 15.2 in the previous period. It was the lowest reading since the second quarter of 2017, as consumers' expectations regarding their own financial conditions next year weakened sharply (18.8 vs 23.1 in Q3) and their willingness to make large purchases softened (10.4 vs 11.4). Meantime, households' expectations towards the country's economy last year improved (18.2 vs 16.3), as well as those towards the country's economy over the next 12 months (2.9 vs 1.3). "Fear of higher interest rates and increased turmoil in the world economy can explain something of the case, " the CEO of Finance Norway Idar Kreutzer said. "The development may indicate that households have become more uncertain", he added. The country's consumer confidence hit a 24-year low of -15.2 in the first quarter of 2016, due to a plunge in crude oil prices.

Norway GDP Growth Rate at 0.60 percent  
The Norwegian economy grew by 0.6 percent on quarter in the three months to September 2018, after a 0.4 percent expansion in the previous period and in line with market consensus. It was the highest growth rate since Q2 2017 mainly driven by a positive contribution from net external demand, with exports rising 0.9 percent (vs 1.7 percent in Q2) and imports falling 0.5 percent (vs 3.5 percent in Q2). In addition, petroleum activities and ocean transport output rebounded 2.7 percent (vs -1 percent in Q2), fixed investment increased 0.5 percent (vs 6.7 percent in Q2) and government spending grew 0.3 percent, the same as in Q2. Household consumption, however, contracted 0.2 percent in Q3, compared to an increase of 1 percent in Q2 largely due to a drop in consumption of goods. Mainland GDP, which excludes the largely petroleum-based offshore sector, expanded 0.3 percent in the third quarter, compared to a 0.7 percent growth in Q2.

It remained at its highest reading since the first quarter 2012, as manufacturers reported an increase in total production of intermediate, capital, and consumers goods. Industry leaders reported that investment plans are adjusted upwards and employment is expected to increase further. Also, new orders from both the domestic and export market were projected to grow and the total stock of orders is set to rise.
