Norway GDP Growth Rate at 0.20 percent  
The Norwegian economy grew by 0.2 percent quarter-on-quarter in the first quarter of 2017, easing from an upwardly revised 1.2 percent expansion in the previous period and in line with market consensus. The slowdown was mainly driven by a contraction in petroleum activities and ocean transport (-1.5 percent from 4.8 in Q4). By contrast, fixed investment rebounded 0.5 percent (from -0.5 percent in Q4), household consumption advanced 0.6 percent (from 0.7 percent in Q4) and government spending expanded 0.4 percent (from 0.6 percent in Q4). Also, exports went up further (0.9 percent from 0.1 percent in Q4) while imports increased at a faster 2.8 percent (from -1.5 percent in Q4). Mainland GDP, which excludes the volatile oil and shipping sectors, rose by 0.6 percent in the first quarter, following a 0.4 percent growth in the previous three months.

Consumer prices in Norway increased by 2.2 percent year-on-year in April 2017, easing from a 2.4 percent rise in the previous month and missing market expectations of a 2.5 percent gain. It was the lowest inflation rate since September 2015, as prices went up at a slower pace for: Housing and utilities (3.8 percent from 4.0 percent in March) and communications (0.9 percent from 1.9 percent). Additional upward pressure came from: Transport (3.6 percent from 0.5 percent in March); recreation and culture (3.1 percent from 2.4 percent); and miscellaneous goods and services (2.6 percent from 2.2 percent). In contrast, cost fell for food and non-alcoholic beverages (-2.1 percent from 3.0 percent in March); and furnishings and household equipment (-0.5 percent from 0.1 percent). Annual core inflation came in at 1.7 percent, unchanged from March. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.2 percent and core consumer prices went up 0.3 percent.
