Mexico Retail Sales Fall in February

Retail sales in Mexico declined by 1.1% year-on-year in February 2025, reversing a 2.7% increase in January.

The drop came after a brief rebound that had ended eight straight months of contraction.

Sales decreased in vehicle services (-3.3%), textiles, costume jewelry, clothing accessories and footwear (-0.7%), healthcare products(-2.9%), stationery (-0.2%), vehicle items (-1.8%) and hardware, plumbing, and glass products (-2.5%).

Sales through online channels, printed catalogs, television, and similar platforms posted the largest increase, rising by 13.2%.

On a monthly, seasonally adjusted basis, retail sales rose by 0.2% in February, following an upwardly revised 0.7% increase in January.

Retail sales in Mexico rose 5.0% year-on-year in January 2026, accelerating from 4.3% in December and marking the ninth consecutive month of expansion. The strongest gains were recorded in online and catalog sales (23.9%), healthcare products (16.2%), stationery and other personal use items (11.9%), textiles, costume jewelry, clothing accessories and footwear (11.8%), household goods, computers, home décor and used items (6.4%), and motor vehicles, auto parts, fuels and lubricants (6.2%). In contrast, grocery spending fell 1.8%. On a monthly basis, retail sales rose 1.0% following a 0.1% decline in the prior month.

Mexico Retail Sales Rise in December
Retail sales in Mexico rose 4.3% year-on-year in December 2025, slightly below November’s 4.4% increase, marking the eighth consecutive month of expansion in the country’s retail activity. The strongest gains were seen in household goods, computers, home décor and used items (17.8%), online and catalog sales (11.3%), motor vehicles, auto parts, fuels and lubricants (9.1%), and healthcare products (8.2%). In contrast, spending on textiles, costume jewelry, clothing accessories and footwear fell 0.3%. On a monthly basis, retail sales edged down 0.1% after a 1% increase in November.

Mexico Retail Trade Growth Quickens to Over 2-Year High
Retail sales in Mexico rose 4.4% year-on-year in November 2025, up from 3.4% in the prior month and beating forecasts of a 3% advance. This pointed to the seventh consecutive month of growth in the county's retail activity, and the strongest since July 2023. Sales increased significantly for healthcare products (9.9%); household goods, computers, articles for interior decoration and used items (9.5%); stationery items, recreation and other articles of personal use (5.2%) motor vehicles, spare parts, fuels and lubricants (5.2%); and clothing, jewelry, accessories, and shoes (4.8%). Conversely, spending on groceries, food, drinks, ice, and tobacco declined by 5.8%. Notably, sales via online, catalogs, TV, and similar grew by 20.7%. From the previous month, retail trade rose by 1% on a seasonally adjusted basis, after an upwardly revised 0.5% increase in October and well above estimates of a 0.1% gain.
