Mexico Business Confidence at 5-Year Low

Mexico’s manufacturing business confidence eased 0.5 points to 47.8 in March 2026, hitting the lowest since March 2021, and marking the 13th straight month below the 50-point neutral threshold. Investment willingness fell to 34.0 (–0.7), while the outlook for the national economy slipped to 51.5 (–0.6), and company outlook expectations dipped to 55.5 (–0.3). Conversely, perceptions of current national conditions edged down to 47.9 (–0.2), and firms’ present situation softened to 50.3 (–0.2).

Mexico’s manufacturing business confidence eased 0.2 points to 48.1 in February 2026, the lowest since March 2021 and the 12th straight month below the 50-point neutral threshold. Investment willingness fell to 34.2 (-0.8), while the outlook for the national economy slipped to 51.9 (-0.1), and company outlook expectations dipped to 55.7 (-0.4). Conversely, perceptions of current national conditions improved slightly to 48.0 (+0.1), and firms’ present situation rose to 50.4 (+0.2).

The manufacturing business confidence in Mexico eased to 48.4 in January of 2026 from the downwardly revised 48.6 in the previous month, the lowest since April of the previous year, to mark 11 consecutive months below the 50-point neutral threshold. Surveyees noted a deterioration in the outlook of Mexico's economy (-0.4 to 52.1) and the outlook of their companies (-0.4 to 56). Likewise, sharper contractions were noted on whether it is the right moment to invest (-0.1 to 35.3) and the current condition of Mexico's economy (-0.2 vs 48).
