The unemployment rate in Macedonia decreased for a second straight quarter to a record low of 15.9 percent in the second quarter of 2021, compared to 16.7 percent in the same period of the previous year. The number of unemployed persons decreased by 9.5 thousand to 150.1 thousand, while the number of employed increased by 1.8 thousand to 795.3 thousand. Meanwhile, the labour force participation rate ticked down to 56 percent from 56.5 percent a year earlier, and the employment rate slowed down to 47.3 percent from 47.06 percent.

Macedonia Jobless Rate Continues to Drop in Q1
The unemployment rate in Macedonia dropped to 16 percent in the first quarter of 2021 from 16.2 percent in the same period of the previous year. It was the third consecutive decline in jobless rate to its lowest level since the series began in 2004. The number of unemployed persons decreased by 5.8 thousand to 150 thousand, while the number of employed fell by 17.9 thousand to 793 thousand. Therefore, the activity rate edged down to 56.0 percent from 57.4 percent a year earlier, and the employment rate slowed down to 47.1 percent from 48.1 percent.
