Macedonia's producer prices fell 0.9 percent year-on-year in November 2018, following a 0.5 percent decline in the previous month, on lower costs for energy (-5.6 percent vs -7.5 percent in October), capital goods (-2.1 percent vs -1.1 percent) and intermediate goods (-0.9 percent vs unchanged). By contrast, increases were seen in prices for durable goods (1.5 percent vs 1 percent) and non-durable goods (0.5 percent vs 0.6 percent). On a monthly basis, producer prices rose 0.2 percent in November, after a 0.1 percent decline in October.

Macedonia's annual inflation rate fell to 0.9 percent in December 2018, the lowest level since March 2017, from 1.2 percent in the previous month mainly due to a steep drop in cost of transportation (-0.7 percent vs 4.7 percent in November). In addition, prices rose at a slower pace for both housing & utilities (0.1 percent vs 0.2 percent in November) and restaurants & hotels (2.4 percent vs 2.5 percent). On the other hand, inflation picked up for food & non-alcoholic beverages (0.6 percent vs 0.5 percent), clothing & footwear (1.1 percent vs 0.1 percent), and furnishings, household equipment & routine maintenance of the house (1 percent vs 0.2 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices were down 0.2 percent in December.

Meanwhile, the labour force participation rate increased to 57 percent from 56.8 percent and employment rate increased to 45.1 percent from 44.2 percent in the three months to September of 2017. In the second quarter of 2018, the jobless rate was higher at 21.1 percent.

Household consumption (3 percent from 1.9 percent) and government expenditure (9.6 percent from 7.7 percent) rose faster while fixed investment continued to contract (-8.5 percent from -16.4 percent). Also, net trade contributed positively to growth, as exports jumped 12 percent (from 14.1 percent in Q2) while imports went up 7.5 percent (from 3.4 percent in Q2).
