Indonesia December Car Sales Jump 25.7%

New car registrations in Indonesia surged 25.7% year-on-year to 100,163 units in December 2025, rebounding sharply from a 0.8% decline in November. The year-end boost was supported by seasonal promotions and heightened consumer demand during the long holiday season. For the full year, total vehicle sales reached 808,450 units, down 6.8% from 2024, reflecting broader market softness despite the strong December finish.

New car sales in Indonesia fell 0.8% year-on-year to 74,252 units in November 2025, slowing from a 4.4% drop in the previous month. While this marked the sixth straight month of decline, it was the softest pace in the sequence. On a monthly basis, car sales rose by 0.3%, a sharp deceleration from the 19.2% surge recorded in October. For the January–November period, total car sales reached 710,084 units, 10% lower than the same period last year, primarily driven by reduced sales of light passenger vehicles (-11%), commercial vehicles (-3%) and small internal combustion engine (ICE) passenger cars (-31%). Nevertheless, the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO) continues to forecast 2025 car sales in the range of 750,000 to 900,000 units, above its 2024 estimate of 850,000 units. However, the association cautioned that this outlook may be revised downward, given the persistent sales slump observed in the first half of the year.

New car sales in Indonesia fell 4.4% year-on-year to 74,019 units in October 2025, a much smaller decline than the 15.1% drop recorded in September. While this marked the fifth consecutive month of decline, it was the softest pace in the sequence, with sales volume the highest since December last year. During the January–October period, car sales decreased 10.6% compared to the same period in 2024, totaling 635,844 units. The Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO) projects that 2025 car sales will reach between 850,000 and 900,000 units, with a potential downside of around 750,000 units. On a monthly basis, car sales surged 19.2% in October, accelerating sharply from a 0.5% increase in September. This marked the fourth consecutive monthly rise, following a cumulative 150-basis-point interest rate cut by the central bank since September 2024, which brought rates to their lowest level since 2022.
