New car sales in Indonesia climbed 12.2% year-on-year to 81,159 units in February 2026, following a 7.0% rise in the previous month.

The increase signaled that demand for new vehicles is gradually improving after weakening in January, supported by stronger interest in electric vehicles and a broader recovery in Indonesia’s automotive sector.

On a monthly basis, car sales surged 22.1%.

In the January-February period, total wholesales reached 147,631 units.

Meanwhile, retail new car sales jumped 16.7% month-on-month to 78,219 units.

The year-end boost was supported by seasonal promotions and heightened consumer demand during the long holiday season. Indonesia Car Sales Fall at Softer Pace
New car sales in Indonesia fell 0.8% year-on-year to 74,252 units in November 2025, slowing from a 4.4% drop in the previous month. While this marked the sixth straight month of decline, it was the softest pace in the sequence. On a monthly basis, car sales rose by 0.3%, a sharp deceleration from the 19.2% surge recorded in October. For the January–November period, total car sales reached 710,084 units, 10% lower than the same period last year, primarily driven by reduced sales of light passenger vehicles (-11%), commercial vehicles (-3%) and small internal combustion engine (ICE) passenger cars (-31%). Nevertheless, the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO) continues to forecast 2025 car sales in the range of 750,000 to 900,000 units, above its 2024 estimate of 850,000 units. However, the association cautioned that this outlook may be revised downward, given the persistent sales slump observed in the first half of the year.
