Sensex Slips on Elevated Oil Prices
India’s BSE Sensex edged down about 0.3% to 73,377 at the open on Tuesday, reversing gains from the previous session as elevated crude oil prices weighed on investor sentiment ahead of the US Federal Reserve’s interest-rate decision. Brent crude traded near $115 a barrel, close to a six-month high, raising concerns about inflation, corporate margins and India’s import bill. Investors also remained cautious ahead of the Fed’s policy announcement on Wednesday, with markets expecting interest rates to remain unchanged while assessing the outlook for borrowing costs later this year. Among individual stocks, technology stocks led the losses, with notable decliners in TCS (-2.0%), Infosys (-2.9%), HCL (-1.2%), and Wipro (-1.7%). On the upside, Tata Consumer Products jumped 5.8% on stronger-than-expected quarterly profit, buoyed by packaged food and beverage demand. Sona BLW reported a 29.9% rise in net profit to 223.4 crore rupees, with revenue up 35.2% to 1,546.4 crore rupees.

Sensex Finishes Higher
India’s BSE Sensex closed about 0.7% firmer at 73,606.8 on Monday, halting a four-day losing streak, supported by positive corporate earnings and the easing in oil prices, despite crude prices remaining elevated. However, some caution persisted due to ongoing geopolitical tensions and ahead of the US Federal Reserve’s policy decision due later in the week. Kotak Mahindra Bank was among the leading gainers, advancing 2.5% after delivering better-than-expected quarterly earnings amid robust credit demand. Adani Ports gained 2.7% following Motilal Oswal’s favourable stock assessment, while Tata Steel rose 1.5% as JSW Steel’s strong earnings bolstered sentiment across the metals sector. On the downside, top losers included Bajaj Finance (-0.8%), HDFC Bank (-0.6%) and Maruti (-0.5%).
