Sensex Finishes at Near 6-Month Low
India’s BSE Sensex closed by 1.5% down at 72,772 on Monday, its lowest since early April, reversing the previous session's advance, amid broad-based selling. Investor sentiment weakened amid renewed geopolitical uncertainty and a sharp rebound in crude oil prices after US President Trump rejected Iran’s proposal to resolve the conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Elevated global yields and continued foreign outflows added further pressure. L&T (-2.8%), Power Grid (-2.6%), Adani Ports (-2.4%), HDFC Bank (-2.3%), Hindustan Unilver (-2.3%), Reliance (-2.2%) and SBIN (-2.1%) were the major laggards. Sensex Hits Near 6-Month Low
India’s BSE Sensex fell about 1.3% to 72,942 on Monday, reversing gains from the previous session and hitting its lowest level since early April, as higher oil prices and persistent concerns over global yields and foreign outflows weighed on Indian equities. Oil prices climbed about 2% after a stalemate in US-Iran talks, raising concerns for India, one of the world’s major oil importers. On the data front, India’s industrial and manufacturing data for August are also due later in the day, with industrial production expected to ease to 6.5% from 6.7% in July, offering fresh clues on the strength of domestic economic activity. Among stocks in focus are Aequs after approving warrants worth up to 6.5 billion rupees, and Clean Max Enviro after reports that Augment India Holdings may sell a 7.25% stake through a block deal at a 10% discount. All sectors declined, with notable decliners including HDFC Bank (-1.8%), Reliance (-1.4%), NSE (-1.5%), and Hero Motors (-5.5%).
