India’s BSE Sensex fell about 0.2% to 74,736 on Tuesday, erasing gains from the earlier session, as declines in financial and technology stocks weighed on the benchmark.

The index fell despite easing oil prices, with Brent crude trading around $101 a barrel after declining for four consecutive sessions, helping ease some pressure on oil-importing India.

US President Donald Trump said he was open to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in New York this week.

Meanwhile, investors focused on the National Stock Exchange IPO, which drew over $10 billion in bids and was subscribed 5.71 times, with shares set to debut on Thursday.

Notable laggards included Infosys (-1.4%), TCS (-0.9%), LTM (-3.6%), ICICI Bank (-0.4%), and State Bank of India (-0.7%).

On the upside, Coal India rose about 3.1% after Morgan Stanley upgraded the stock to “overweight” on a stronger earnings outlook.

Pace Digitek jumped about 10.5% after winning a 4.88 billion-rupee order from an NTPC unit.

Sensex Finishes Higher
India’s BSE Sensex closed about 0.8% firmer at 74,894.9 on Monday, halting a two-day losing streak, buoyed by a significant drop in global crude oil prices and the return of foreign fund inflows. Meanwhile, investors remained hopeful that this week’s UN General Assembly could bring diplomatic progress toward a resolution to the Iran conflict, while a partial recovery in oil shipments from Saudi Arabia eased inflation concerns. Market participants also continued to monitor intense IPO activity ahead of the NSE’s listing on September 24. Among single stocks, UltraTech Cement, HCL Tech, Eternal, Titan, ITC and Tech Mahindra posted the biggest gains, rising between 1.8%-4.1%. On the downside, Bharti Airtel (-1.9%), Power Grid (-1.2%) and Infosys (-1%) were the laggards. Tata Steel fell 0.6% as Tata Group stocks remained under pressure amid escalating tensions between Tata Trusts and Tata Sons over the conglomerate’s leadership and future structure.
