The SENSEX Index Closes 0.52% Lower

India’s BSE Sensex closed about 0.6% down at 77,235.5 on Tuesday, the lowest since late July, marking the third straight session of losses. It reflected a broader risk-off mood as investors assess the impact of elevated energy prices, geopolitical uncertainty and rising global yields. Fears of renewed escalation grew after reports that US President Donald Trump would not extend the 60-day ceasefire, while Iran was said to be taking a more aggressive stance. Foreign institutional investors also remained sellers in Indian equities on Monday. Selling pressure was seen in several sectoral indices, led by IT and FMCG stocks. Asian Paints led losses, sliding 2.4%, followed by Infosys (-2%), HCL Tech (-1.9%), Bharti Airtel (-1.8%), TCS (-1.5%) and Hindustan Unilever (-1.4%). Major lenders also took a hit after the RBI decided to close its special FCNR(B) swap facility one month ahead of schedule. Kotak Mahindra Bank, SBI, ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank posted losses between 0.5% and 1.1%.

The SENSEX Index decreased 402 points or 0.52 percent on Tuesday to close at 77326 points. The decline was led by Asian Paints (-2.51%), Infosys (-2.29%) and HCL Tech (-2.26%). On the upside, the strongest performers were Axis Bank (1.44%), Mahindra & Mahindra (0.65%) and Power Grid (0.58%).

India’s BSE Sensex edged down to about 0.4%, or 281 points, to 77,450 on Tuesday, extending recent losses as investors reacted to rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Sentiment weakened after the US-Iran ceasefire expired without a new agreement, sending Brent crude above $91 per barrel and fueling concerns over higher inflation and increased import costs for India, one of the world's largest crude importers. Among individual stocks, Colgate-Palmolive India dropped around 3% after brokerages raised concerns over margin pressures despite the company's growth strategy. In contrast, Indo-MIM jumped 10% following strong quarterly earnings, while Highway Infrastructure advanced 4% after winning a government highway contract. Notable laggards included BSE Ltd. (-2.4%), Cupid Limited (-1.7%), Billionbrains Garage Ventures (-2.7%), Bharti Airtel (-1.6%), and One 97 Communications (-1.4%).
