India’s BSE Sensex rose about 0.5% to 78,822 at the open on Wednesday, rebounding after snapping a four-session winning streak in the previous session.
The advance came as investors positioned ahead of the Reserve Bank of India's monetary policy decision, with markets widely expecting the central bank to leave interest rates unchanged at 5.25%.
Sentiment was further supported by a decline in global crude oil prices to around $78.5 per barrel.
Market participants, however, remained attentive to the impact of India's recently introduced closing auction mechanism for derivative-linked stocks, which has contributed to heightened volatility in benchmark index movements near the close of trading.
Among notable movers included NIACL (8.8%), Morepen (7.1%), Bluestone (4.9%), and Deepak (2.9%).
Looking ahead, markets will focus on the RBI's policy decision, along with crude oil prices, inflation, and monsoon progress, for cues on the outlook for the Indian economy and equities.
