The SENSEX Index Closes 0.54% Lower

India’s BSE Sensex finished about 0.6% down at 76,009.7 on Tuesday, snapping a two-day advance, in line with other global peers. Profit-booking took place, as investors assessed fresh US military strikes in southern Iran and their possible impact on a possible peace deal, despite ongoing negotiations. This reignited concerns over crude oil prices, inflation and the broader economic outlook. At the same time, concerns over sustained foreign outflows persisted. Bharti Airtel led the declines, down 1.5%, followed by Trent (-1.4%); TCS (-1.4%), Bajaj Finance (-1.3%), Titan (-1.1%), HDFC Bank (-1%), Mahindra & Mahindra (-1%) and ICICI Bank (-1%). On the flip side, Tech Mahindra was the top gainer, rising 1.7%. Eternal added 1%, while Maruti Suzuki India gained 0.6%, Adani Ports rose 0.4%, and Hindustan Unilever also advanced 0.4%.

The SENSEX Index dropped 411 points or 0.54 percent on Tuesday to close at 76078 points. Losses were led by Bharti Airtel (-1.48%), Tata Consultancy (-1.16%) and Titan Company (-1.06%). Offsetting the fall, top gainers were Tata Motors (3.39%), Tech Mahindra (1.71%) and Nestle India (1.28%).

India’s BSE Sensex opened largely unchanged at 76,479 on Tuesday, after last session’s two-week high as investors turned cautious following fresh US strikes in southern Iran that heightened geopolitical tensions and pushed oil prices sharply higher. Fresh US “self-defense” strikes on Iranian missile sites and mine-laying vessels today have further strained the fragile ceasefire, even as Washington and Tehran continue negotiations over reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ending the conflict. Most sectors opened in the green, with only communications, retail trade, and health services posting modest declines. Among individual stocks, Techno Electric (-11.3%), Container Corporation (-4.6%), and Rail Vikas (-3.0%) were the biggest laggards, while Uniparts (+15.1%), Bliss GVS (+17.7%), Pace Digitek (+8%), and Premier Explosives (+3.9%) posted the strongest gains.
