India’s BSE Sensex closed about 1.4% firmer at 76,489 on Monday, the highest level since early May, marking the second day of advances.

Investor sentiment improved amid rising hopes of a US-Iran peace deal and falling oil prices.

US President Trump said Washington and Iran have “largely negotiated” a memorandum of understanding on a peace deal that would effectively reopen the Strait of Hormuz, although both US and Iranian officials have played down expectations of an imminent breakthrough.

Heavyweight financials were the most benefited, with private lenders HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank rising 2.6% and 2.6%, respectively.

Bajaj Finance, Eternal (Zomato), L&T, Bajaj Finserv, State Bank of India, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Mahindra & Mahindra were also among the top gainers, adding between 2–3%, while Infosys, TCS, Hindustan Unilever and Sun Pharma posted marginal losses.
