Hong Kong Manufacturing Output Tumbles in Q3

Manufacturing production in Hong Kong tumbled 0.1% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2024 from a 0.7% gain in the previous period.
This marked the first fall in manufacturing activity since the fourth quarter of 2022, as output slipped for food, beverages and tobacco (-2.7% vs 0.6% in Q2).
Moreover, output continued to fall for paper products, printing and reproduction of recorded media (-4.6% vs -2.1%).
Meanwhile, output rebounded for both textiles and wearing apparel (5.8% vs -7.6%) and metal, computer, electronics and optical products, machinery and equipment (3.5% vs -3.5%).
Additionally, output edged up for miscellaneous manufacturing industries (2.4% vs 2.2%).
On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, manufacturing production stalled in the third quarter of 2024, following a 0.5% fall in the previous period.
