UK Gas Prices Jump

UK natural gas prices rose nearly 4% to around 121.6 pence per therm on Monday, recovering from the previous session’s losses as a new round of attacks between the US and Iran heightened concerns over LNG shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.

The US Central Command said American forces launched another wave of strikes on dozens of targets across Iran, aimed at weakening Tehran’s ability to threaten maritime traffic through the strategic waterway.

Iran retaliated by attacking countries in the region hosting US military forces, including Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan.

Conflicting statements over the status of the strait added to uncertainty, with the US saying the waterway remains open, while Iran claimed it had closed the passage "until further notice." Market participants remain on high alert, as any prolonged conflict or direct damage to LNG export infrastructure in the Gulf could complicate Europe's efforts to replenish storage ahead of the heating season.

UK Gas Prices Ease 2%
UK natural gas prices fell over 2% to around 118.5 pence per therm on Friday, easing from a four-week high after reports that US-Iran negotiations continued despite the recent escalation in hostilities. A US official reiterated that Washington remains committed to reaching a diplomatic solution with Tehran, helping to ease fears of a renewed full-scale conflict that could threaten energy supplies from the Persian Gulf. Earlier this week, prices had climbed about 15% after fresh US strikes on Iranian targets, launched in response to attacks on vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, triggered retaliatory Iranian strikes on American bases in the region. Markets remain closely focused on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, which handles roughly one-fifth of global oil and LNG trade, as any renewed disruption could hinder Europe's efforts to replenish gas inventories ahead of winter.
