Soybean Futures Hold Above $11

Soybean futures remained above $11 per bushel, near their highest levels since July 2024, supported by lower production forecasts, though concerns over demand limited gains.

Friday’s USDA update on global supply and demand, the first in several weeks, cut world soybean production for the 2025/26 marketing year by 4.1 million tons to 421.75 million tons, including a 1.3 million-ton reduction for the US to 115.75 million tons.

Ending global stocks are projected to fall 2 million tons to 121.99 million, with declines in Argentina, Brazil, the US, the EU, Ukraine, and India partially offset by increases in China.

Global soybean consumption was also trimmed by 2.35 million tons to 421.54 million tons, largely due to a 1.7 million-ton drop in Argentina.

Demand concerns persist over China’s purchases of US soybeans: following a summit between Presidents Trump and Xi Jinping, China has bought just 332,000 metric tons, far short of the 12 million tons initially pledged for the calendar year.

Soybeans Near 3-Month Low on Ample Supply Outlook
Soybean futures fell around $11.9 per bushel, approaching their lowest level in three months, as expectations of abundant global supplies and concerns over Chinese demand weighed on prices. The US harvest was 88% complete as of November 1, four percentage points ahead of the five-year average, keeping production on track for a record. Competition from Brazil added to the pressure, as a weaker real made its exports more competitive, while planting for the 2026/27 crop reached 53% of the projected area, six percentage points ahead of last year's pace. Demand concerns also grew after China's commercial soybean oil inventories climbed to nearly 1.5 million tons, up 4.3% from a year earlier, as strong crushing activity outpaced sluggish consumption. Meanwhile, fresh Chinese purchases offered some support, with the USDA reporting a sale of 136,000 MT to China for the 2026/27 marketing year. The USDA reported further sales of 165,150 MT and 132,000 MT to unknown destinations.

Soybean Futures Holds Near 11-Week Low
Soybean futures held below $12.1 per bushel, staying near an eleven-week low as the rapidly advancing US harvest and expectations for record crop weighed on prices. The USDA’s October WASDE report raised its forecast for 2026/27 US soybean crop by 1% from the previous estimate to a record 4.56 billion bushels, up 7% from the previous year. The projected yield was also revised higher by 0.6 bushels to a record 53.1 bushels per acre. According to the USDA’s weekly report, the harvest has now reached 79% completion as of October 25, slightly ahead of the five-year average of 77%. Meanwhile, US export inspections climbed to 2.48 million metric tons for the week ended October 22, up from 2.07 million the previous week and well above the 1.16 million tons recorded a year earlier. Elsewhere, Brazil’s competitive position remained a concern after President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s reelection weakened the real, making Brazilian soybeans cheaper for overseas buyers relative to US supplies.
