Baltic Dry Index at Over 1-Month Low, Posts Weekly Loss

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which tracks rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, declined for a fifth straight session on Friday, dropping about 2.2% to its lowest since August 25 at 3,002 points.

The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes, including iron ore and coal, slipped by 4% to its lowest since August 21 at 4,638 points.

Meanwhile, the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, edged up by 0.1% to 2,366 points; and the supramax index rose by 0.3% to 1,795 points.

For the week, the benchmark index slipped over 7%,

Baltic Index Falls for 4th Session
The Baltic Index, measuring the price for dry bulk freight, fell by 0.7% to 2,973 points on Tuesday, a fourth straight decline to its lowest since late August. The index measuring prices for capsize bulk carriers dropped 1.9% to its lowest level since August 20th. In turn, indexes measuring panamax and supramax vessels inched higher by 1.1% and 0.4%, respectively.

The index measuring prices for capsize bulk carriers dropped 0.9% to its lowest level since August 21st. In turn, indexes measuring panamax and supramax vessels inched higher by 0.8% and 0.3%, respectively.
