Baltic Dry Index Hits 1-1/2-Year Peak

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, advanced for a third day on Thursday, up 26 points to its highest since March 2024 at 2,266 points.
The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, added 68 points at 3,641 points; and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 11 points to 1,835 points.
Among smaller vessels, the supramax remained unchanged at 1,483 points.
