Baltic Dry Index Hits Over 1-Month High

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, was up for a fourth day on Tuesday, rising about 3% to its highest since July 29 at 2,079 points, amid gains across all vessel segments.

The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, advanced 3.6% to a two-week high of 3,016 points; and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 4.2% to its highest since July 17 at 1,923 points.

Among smaller vessels, the supramax index increased by 0.6% to 1,473 points.

Baltic Dry Index Highest since 2023
The Baltic Exchange dry index increased 2.1% to 3063 on Tuesday, the highest since December 2023. The capesize index, which typically transport 150,000-ton cargoes, including iron ore and coal, rose 2.1% to 5,082. The panamax index, which usually carry 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, advanced 3.4% to 2,360. Also, the supramax index went up 0.5% to 1,535.

Baltic Dry Index Rebounds
The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, rose about 1.8% to 3,031 points on Monday, reversing a 1.9% decrease in the prior session. The panamax index, which usually carries 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, advanced by 2.2% to its highest since March 2024 at 2,283 points; and the capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, rose by 0.4% to 4,976 points. Among smaller vessels, the supramax index went up 0.3% to 1,527 points.

Baltic Dry Index Snaps 5-Day Rally
The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, halted a five-day winning streak on Friday, falling about 1.9% to 2,978 points. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, declined by 3.6% to 4,955 points. Meanwhile, the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose by 1.7% to a more than two-year high of 2,233 points; and the supramax index edged up 0.1% to 1,522 points. The benchmark index advanced 9.1% for the week.
