Chile Retail Sales Growth Slows in January

Retail sales in Chile increased 3.7% year-on-year in January 2026, marking the slowest pace of growth in nine months and decreasing from a downwardly revised 4.4% expansion in December 2025.

Growth was driven primarily by stronger sales in food (4.7%), clothing, footwear and accessories (5.6%), and other consumer goods (5.0%).

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales fell 0.2% in January, reversing a 0.2% increase in December.

The categories that increased the most were electronics and household technology (10.7%), clothing and footwear (6.6%), and other consumer goods (5.2%). Compared to the previous month, retail sales increased 0.9%.

Retail sales in Chile rose 4.5% year-on-year in December 2025, marking the slowest growth in eight months, following a downwardly revised 5.8% increase in November. The main contributors to the expansion were electronics, household equipment, and technology products (6.7%), clothing, footwear, and accessories (6.4%), and other miscellaneous consumer goods (6.1%). Cumulative growth for the year stood at 5.4%. On a seasonally adjusted basis, retail sales increased 4.8% year-on-year and rose 0.2% compared to the previous month, reversing a 0.3% decline.
