Chile Inflation Rate Speeds Up to 4.7% in October

The annual inflation rate in Chile accelerated to 4.7% in October 2024, up from a four-month low of 4.1% in the prior month.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices surged by 1% in October, marking the strongest rise since March 2023, above market forecasts of a 0.6% rise.

Main upward pressure came from prices of housing & utilities (+3.1%); food & non-alcoholic beverages (+2.2%) and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (+1.8%).

On the other hand, decreases were seen for clothing & footwear (-3%); furnishings & household equipment (-1.5%); information & communication (-0.6%) and transportation (-0.3%).

Core consumer prices went up by 0.2% in October, following a 0.5% increase in the prior month.
