Turkey Retail Sales at Over 1-Year Low

Retail sales in Turkey rose 10.4% year-on-year in July 2026, slowing from a downwardly revised 11.5% in the previous month.

It marked the weakest annual growth since March 2025, mainly driven by softer sales in other household equipment in specialized stores (0.7% vs 2.1% in June), other goods in specialized stores (20.5% vs 25.4%), non-specialized stores (3.6% vs 4.2%), and trade not in stores, stalls and markets (19.2% vs 23.4%).

Meanwhile, sales growth accelerated for food, beverages and tobacco in specialized stores (4.2% vs 0.6%), automotive fuel in specialized stores (8.0% vs 1.3%), information and communication equipment in specialized stores (10.9% vs 10.5%), cultural and recreation goods in specialized stores (10.9% vs 7.1%), and sales via stalls and markets (18.7% vs 13.4%).

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales rose 0.2%, easing from a 0.5% increase in June.

Retail sales in Turkey rose 11.8% year-on-year in June 2026, easing from a downwardly revised 12.8% increase in the previous month. Sales growth slowed for food, beverages, and tobacco (2.9% vs 8.8%) and automotive fuel (1.1% vs 2.8%). Meanwhile, non-food sales accelerated to 17.6% from 16.3%, supported by stronger demand for computers, peripheral equipment, software, books, and telecommunications products (28.8% vs 23.8%), pharmaceutical, medical, orthopedic, cosmetic, and personal care products (16.9% vs 12.6%), as well as mail-order and online sales (22.4% vs 13.0%). However, sales in textiles, clothing, and footwear sales moderated to 3.9% from 11.5%. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales increased 0.7%, slowing from a downwardly revised 2.1% rise in May.

Turkey Retail Sales Growth Picks Up in May
Retail sales in Turkey rose 13.7% year-on-year in May 2026, accelerating from an upwardly revised 11.7% increase in the previous month. Growth in non-food sales excluding automotive fuel quickened to 17.5% from 14.8% in April, driven mainly by stronger sales of computers, peripheral equipment, software, books, and telecommunications equipment (23.5% vs 18.9%), as well as textiles, clothing, and footwear (17.6% vs 10.8%). This offset slower growth in audio and video equipment, hardware, paints and glass, electrical household appliances, furniture, and related goods (6.8% vs 7%), pharmaceutical, medical, orthopedic, cosmetic, and toilet products (12.3% vs 15.4%), and mail-order and internet sales (16.2% vs 18.8%). Meanwhile, sales of automotive fuel (3.2% vs 2.9%) and food products (9.1% vs 7.8%) also grew at a faster pace. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales increased 2.4%, rebounding from a downwardly revised 1.7% fall in April.
