Turkey Consumer Morale Hits 5-Month Low

Turkey’s consumer confidence index rose to 85.7 in February 2026 from 83.7 in January, marking the highest reading since March 2025. Assessments strengthened for households’ current financial situation, with the index climbing to 71.3 from 68.2 in January. Expectations for households’ financial outlook over the next twelve months also improved significantly, rising to 86.8 from 83.3. Households’ willingness to spend on durable goods strengthened modestly, with the index increasing to 103.2 from 101.9, suggesting a gradual improvement in purchasing intentions. Meanwhile, expectations for the general economic situation over the next year remained broadly stable, edging slightly lower to 81.4 from 81.5. Despite the improvement, the overall index remained below the 100 threshold, indicating that consumer confidence continues to reflect a pessimistic outlook.

However, sentiment remained mixed as households’ expectations for their financial situation over the next year weakened to 83.3 from 85.2, while intentions to spend on durable goods eased slightly to 101.9 from 102.6, signaling continued caution in purchasing plans. Overall, the index remained well below the 100 threshold, indicating that consumer confidence is still in pessimistic territory despite the marginal improvement.

In addition, intentions to spend on durable goods over the next year eased to 102.6 from 105.0, signaling weaker purchasing plans. Overall, the index remained below the 100 mark, indicating that consumer sentiment continues to stay in pessimistic territory.
