Sweden Producer Inflation Hits Over 3-Year High

Producer prices in Sweden increased 6.8% year-on-year in August 2026, accelerating from 6.4% in July and marking the sixth consecutive monthly rise. The increase was mainly driven by higher energy prices (25.2% vs 26.0% in July). Meanwhile, prices for capital goods rose at the same pace (1.6%), while the decline in consumer goods prices eased (-1.6% vs -1.7%). Excluding energy-related products, producer prices rose by 3.9%, accelerating from a 3.5% gain in the previous month. On a monthly basis, producer prices rose by 0.9% in August, following a 0.1% rise in July, marking the fastest increase in four months. “Higher prices for refined petroleum products, as well as trade services in electricity, accounted for the largest contributions to the positive monthly change in the producer price index in August,” said Maria Bäckström, price statistician at Statistics Sweden

Producer prices in Sweden increased 6.4% year-on-year in July 2026, slowing from 7.4% in June and marking the fifth consecutive monthly rise. It was the softest increase since April, due to softer rises in energy prices (26.0% vs 37.7% in June). Meanwhile, prices for capital goods rose at a slightly faster pace (1.6% vs 1.5%), while the decline in consumer goods prices eased (-1.6% vs -1.8%). Excluding energy-related products, producer prices rose by 3.5%, accelerating from a 3.3% gain in the previous month. Domestic supply prices rose by 7.6%, while import prices advanced by 8.6%. On a monthly basis, producer prices edged up by 0.1% in July, the same pace as in June. In the domestic market, prices dropped by 1.1%. “It was mainly lower prices on trade services of electricity that contributed to the negative monthly rate of change in the domestic market,” said Chatrine Lundbeck, statistician at Statistics Sweden.

Producer prices in Sweden climbed 7.4% year-on-year in June 2026, accelerating from 6.6% in May and marking the fourth consecutive monthly gain as well as the fastest pace since February 2023. The increase was driven primarily by persistently higher energy prices (37.7% vs 32.7% in May). Prices for capital goods also rose at a slightly faster pace (1.5% vs 1.4%), while the decline in consumer goods prices eased (-1.8% vs -2.7%). Excluding energy-related products, producer prices rose by 3.3%, accelerating from a 2.7% increase in the prior month. Domestic prices grew by 7.9%, while import prices climbed by 7.0%. On a monthly basis, producer prices went up by 0.1% in June, following a 1.3% gain in previous month. "Although the monthly rate of PPI in June does not show any larger change, the yearly rate of 7.4 percent indicate an upward trend", said Carl Mårtensson, statistician at Statistics Sweden.
